Does your paperwork match the specs? Let AI check before the engineer does

You have probably had this happen. A submittal comes back rejected because the product listed was a different model than the spec called for, or a finish was close but not quite right, or a schedule was built from drawings that an addendum changed two weeks ago. Nobody was careless. The spec book was three hundred pages long and the submittal was due Tuesday.

Checking project paperwork against design specs is slow, line by line work, and it is exactly the kind of comparison AI is surprisingly good at. Claude does not get tired on page 212, and it does not skim.

Where the mismatches hide

Most errors are not big ones. They are small differences that slip through when a person compares two long documents by eye at the end of a long day.

• Product data and model numbers. The spec names a manufacturer or an approved equal, and the submittal lists something else.
• Materials, finishes and ratings. A fire rating, a gauge, a color or a finish that is close to what the spec section calls for, but not the same.
• Quantities and schedules. Door, window and fixture schedules whose counts do not match the drawings or the spec.
• Revisions and addenda. Paperwork put together from an older set of documents after an addendum changed something.
• Closeout documents. O and M manuals, warranties and as builts that are missing items the spec requires at closeout.

How the check works

You send me the project specs and the contract deliverables you are about to submit. I use Claude to compare them section by section, and it builds a list of every place where your document does not line up with what the specs call for, with the location in both documents so you can find it fast.

Then I go through that list myself before it ever reaches you. I am a big believer in AI, and an even bigger believer in double checking it. What you get back is short and plain: this item, this spec section, here is the difference. You decide what to fix.

What it does not replace

This is a second set of eyes, not a stamp. I am not an engineer or an architect, and neither is Claude. Your engineer of record and your project manager still make the calls. The check simply catches the small things that are easy to miss, so fewer of them come back to you with a red mark on them.

Why it is worth the few minutes

A rejected submittal is more than an annoyance. It means reworking the package, waiting on another review cycle, and sometimes watching the schedule slide while materials sit unordered. Catching a mismatch before the paperwork goes out is almost always cheaper than catching it after.
